To commemorate the achievement, Groupon launched A Billion Thanks!—an up to 80 percent off sale featuring nearly 50,000 deals

Groupon has touched the one billionth mark, placing the company in the same group as Apple, McDonald’s, Uber, The Beatles, Elvis, and other brands which have reached the billion-sold milestone. The landmark deal entailed an $11 for $20 promotion on Italian food at Pirrone’s Pizzeria in St. Louis.

To commemorate the achievement, Groupon launched A Billion Thanks!—an up to 80 percent off sale featuring nearly 50,000 deals––spanning restaurants, spas, electronics, travel, and more. The full collection can be viewed via a dedicated microsite.

The details of how the brand claimed its one billion sold victory can be viewed via its A Billion Thanks! website. Meanwhile, for its part in helping Groupon reach the billion-sold mark, Pirrone’s Pizzeria will receive $10,000. The customer who purchased on the one billionth deal will receive a year’s supply of free local Groupons.

“We’re thrilled to join the select group of names in the billion-sold club. We owe a huge thanks to the merchants who entrusted us to promote their business as well as our loyal customers who’ve made us part of their daily routine in discovering the best businesses in their neighborhood,” said Rich Williams, CEO of Groupon.
