Known for its sausage rolls and baked pastry delights, Greggs is progressing well in its goal of opening 150 new shops across the United Kingdom.

Roisin Currie, Chief Executive of Greggs, spoke to the PA news agency. She expressed her satisfaction with the development of opening new sites, with current strategies targeting Cornwall and other locations with fewer Greggs stores.

“Obviously we are a brand that started from the North, and the natural growth of the business from there means there are some parts of the country, such as in Cornwall and the South West, where we see more scope to open sites.”

The British bakery chain operates about 2,300 shops across the country at present. As part of its long-term growth strategy, they eventually aim to expand to over 3,000 shops.

According to Time Out, some of the Greggs stores slated to be open later this year are in Canary Wharf Station, Shepherd’s Bush Station, Gatwick Airport South Terminal, Glasgow Airport, Edinburgh Castle Street, and Cardiff Park House, among others.

By establishing themselves in travel locations like service stations and forecourts, the group hopes to target travellers and tourists, especially in the summer.

“We’re looking very positively towards the summer, and hopefully, this warm weather will mean more people out and about, and ultimately looking for somewhere to eat.”

The group marked its fourth Cornwall shop in U2 Enterprise Park just recently.
