Mattel has released a Barbie Role Model series honouring seven leading women worldwide. UK space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock is one of them. These women will get a one-of-a-kind doll in their likeness.

The decision came ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March. Moreover, the country is celebrating British Science Week from 10-19 March. This also became a major factor in this decision.

The Barbie Role Model, Dr Aderin-Pocock, is a renowned presenter of CBeebies Stargazing. She also stars in BBC One’s The Sky at Night. Earlier, she was named the chancellor at the University of Leicester.

She said, “I hope my doll will remind girls that when you reach for the stars, anything is possible.” “I want to inspire the next generation of scientists, especially girls, and let them know that STEM is for them,” she added.

Her Barbie Role Model doll has a starry dress evocative of the night sky. Furthermore, it comes with a stargazing telescope accessory. This reflects to her work looking deep into space with the James Webb Telescope.
