Commemorating the centennial anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, Rolex has unveiled a special edition Rolex Daytona – the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona in 18K white gold.
The timepiece features Paul Newman-style counters, with printed squares just on the end of the watch’s hash marks. As a tribute to the race and its 100th anniversary, the unique calibre 4132 movement allows the chronograph to run up to 24 hours instead of 12. The number ‘100’ in red is also easily distinguishable against the black tachymeter bezel.
Besides these, the watch presents a black ceramic Cerachrom bezel, white counters inspired by the classic Rolex dial, and an Oyster face with a transparent back and Oyster bracelet.
Tom Kristensen, who is a Rolex Testimonee, nine-time winner, and the most decorated driver in the race’s history, serves as an ambassador for the 100th edition.
“For me, this year is all about the 24 Hours of Le Mans; there is so much anticipation as we build to this momentous event. Being the official ambassador is a big responsibility and an honour. I’m proud to celebrate the legacy of the 24 Hours of Le Mans over the past 100 years and to reflect on the many evolutions and revolutions, while looking forward to next week’s race. For a racing driver, Rolex and Le Mans are the perfect match. Both have an extraordinary heritage, built and forged over a century.”
Rolex has been the official timepiece of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race since 2001. This year’s winners will receive a specially engraved Cosmograph Daytona watch.
