Burger King and Unilever have teamed up to introduce The Rebel Whopper, the fast food chain’s first plant-based version of the Whopper. Unilever’s meat-free brand The Vegetarian Butcher will be supplying Burger King with the patties that will make up the new product.

The partnership will see the new burger appear in 2,500 locations across 25 countries in Europe, making it the burger chain’s biggest ever product launch in Europe. 

Demand and popularity for vegan and plant based products has risen in the past couple of years, meaning brands of all types are getting on board.

David Shear, President of Burger King EMEA, comments: “We are confident that the Rebel Whopper, powered by The Vegetarian Butcher, is the sandwich everyone has been waiting for and provides the ultimate plant-based patty alternative with the iconic Whopper build. I’m excited to let the Rebel Whopper do the talking and see whether our guests can tell the difference!”
