Promising the debut of new experiences, the collaboration will see the launch of North America’s first virtual reality roller coasters

Six Flags Entertainment has entered into a marketing partnership with Samsung, naming the electronics giant official technology partner. Promising the debut of new experiences at the company’s theme parks, the collaboration will see the launch of North America’s first virtual reality roller coasters.

With the deal in place, the recreational entertainment provider is overhauling its immersive encounters to include rides set to run on Gear VR technology powered by Oculus for a fresh brand of thrills. Several existing offerings are being tweaked to include headsets for passengers.

The idea is to activate a reimagined adventure featuring steep drops, powerful twists and turns, and inverted loops, as gyros, accelerometers, and proximity sensors which synchronise the action across a realistic 360-degree virtual reality world, whilst providing a high-quality mobile experience.

Built to work with Samsung’s Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and Note5, the Gear VR headset utilises each device’s super AMOLED display to provide the colour, clarity, and performance needed for an impactful virtual reality experience.

“This remarkable technology is a definite game-changer for theme park rides and represents everything our brand stands for—delivering the most thrilling and innovative rides and attractions in the world,” said John Duffey, President and Chief Executive Officer of Six Flags Entertainment.
