The autonomous ProPilot Chair designed for the Nissan Serena sees lift with its introduction as a sit-down solution to long queues.
Nissan has unveiled a latest video showcasing innovations designed to bring the benefits of its mobility technology to consumers. Following the success of the Intelligent Parking Chair earlier this year, the new ProPilot Chair automatically queues on behalf of its occupant, sparing them the hassle of standing in line.
Named after the company’s flagship autonomous driving technology, the aforementioned model detects and automatically follows the chair ahead of it, while maintaining a fixed distance and travelling along a set path. As its name suggests, said concept was inspired by the carmaker’s latest ProPilot technology.
The smart technology was developed for the Serena, and has been available with the vehicle in Japan since August. Effective as a safety assist feature for motorists, the product’s purpose is to allow the Nissan minivan to maintain a safe distance behind the car ahead as well as ensure that it stays in the centre of its lane.
With said capabilities now existent, the brand is kicking it up a notch by taking the chair beyond its originally-intended settings to people in everyday situations which require queueing up, especially in long lines. Instead of standing while waiting, users need only sit and relax while the heavy-lifting is done for them.
A prototype at the present stage, the product is designed to ease the workload by assisting with the most tiring and repetitive aspects of driving in heavy highway traffic. Meanwhile, Nissan is working to ensure that the ProPilot Chair is afforded real-world testing through a social media campaign currently being run on Twitter.
From 27 September through 27 December, the above free rental digital campaign welcomes restaurants across Japan to apply to use the chairs by tweeting their name and webpage, along with the hashtags #NissanProPilotChair and #Wanted. Restaurants fitting the logistic criteria will stand to showcase the range at their venue in 2017.
For all other Twitter users, the recommended hashtag is #NissanProPilotChair. Watch concept video here.
