Nickelodeon family game show, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, is making a comeback this year and will be hosted by John Cena.

Nickelodeon is bringing back the family show, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, with the new episodes to be hosted by John Cena, who will also serve as an executive producer. The announcement was made by Brian Robbins, the production company’s president.

The revised version follows the original premise of adult contestants answering questions taken from the elementary school curriculum. Fresh elements will include a ‘cheat’ option, new ways to enlist the help of of grade-school classmates, and a ‘final exam, where players must answer a question from every grade in a race against the clock.

MGM Chairman of Worldwide Television, Mark Burnett, and President, Unscripted Television, Barry Poznick, will return as executive producers. The reboot will place kids in the centre of the action. The show begins production in Los Angeles in spring and debuts later this year.

“Today’s kids and parents are laser-focused on their family time together, so we want to give them shows that appeal to every member of the household. We are very happy to go back to school with an amazing talent like John Cena and the MGM team for a new version of this mega-hit game show,” said Robbins.
