Premium carmaker, The Lincoln Motor Company, has launched its That’s Continental campaign starring actor, Matthew McConaughey.

The Lincoln Motor Company has rolled out a new television spot for its That’s Continental campaign. Titled Entrance and starring Matthew McConaughey, the film was shot across a glacial plain located some 160 miles from Reykjavík, Iceland—capturing its black sand and stark horizon.

According to Global Chief Creative Officer for Hudson Rouge, Jon Pearce, the terrain provided an unforgettable framework for the car. The ads were directed by famed cinematographer, Wally Pfister, whose work on Inception landed him an Academy Award in 2011.

Conditions were extreme, with the crew conducting shoots in unpredictable temperatures and rain, with rainbows lighting up the sky. Entrance is one of several spots featuring the actor. Another key campaign element, Crafted, offers a wry take on non-traditional storytelling.

For the first time in the carmaker’s advertising history, McConaughey is featured in the back seat to highlight some of the rear seat amenities available with the vehicle, including a chauffeur switch. The feature allows a passenger in the rear to move the front passenger seat forward for extra legroom.

Each narrative stands alone, while a common thread throughout deconstructs any preconceived notions viewers may hold about the Lincoln and the all-new Continental. That’s Continental will begin airing on 31 December 2016.

“While many are familiar with its nameplate, we wanted them to see our all-new flagship in a new way. A car as iconic as the Continental could only be shot in a unique locale—one not familiar to viewers,” said John Emmert, Group Marketing Manager at The Lincoln Motor Company.
