In line with the push, Goodyear will honour babies born in the area’s hospitals during the NBA Finals with #AkronBorn care packages.

With its latest campaign, Goodyear is celebrating its birthplace by getting the next generation of Akron greats off to a winning start. With the world’s greatest basketball players set to compete on the sport’s biggest stage, the tyre giant will honour babies born in the area’s hospitals during the NBA Finals.

Legends such as LeBron James and Stephen Curry, like the brand, were born in the aforementioned Ohio city. The initiative will see a ‘Most Valuable Ride’ care package consisting of Goodyear tyres as well as an #AkronBorn onesie and a new infant car seat gifted to recipients in said category.

Three medical facilities—Summa Akron City Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Akron General, and Akron Children’s Hospital—have come on board and will help deliver the care packages to the families of the newborns. The push builds on the recent Safe Mobility Project with the third facility named above.

The brand will bring the activation to life with compelling social media content, print advertising, and community engagement. Adding to the concept, the manufacturer is running a social media exercise asking consumers to snap and share pictures of Goodyear tyres on their vehicles using the #AkronBorn hashtag.

In conjunction with the effort, one winner will be selected for a ride in an iconic aircraft; the world-renowned Goodyear Blimp. Additionally, community members born in the Ohio locale will be invited to post a photo of themselves and use #AkronBorn to show their pride.

The first blimp was born in 1925. The latest airship in the fleet, Wingfoot One, was christened on 23 August 2014 in Akron, continuing the brand’s expertise in more than 60 years of aerial broadcasting of top events and the biggest games. Goodyear will provide aerial coverage during every game of 2016’s NBA Finals.

“Akron is a special place and we want to celebrate the great things born here. The support we have received from our community partners truly represents the foundation of this programme and we are excited to recognise this in an impactful way,” said Seth Klugherz, Director of North America Marketing at Goodyear.
