A campaign featuring a strategic partnership between British Airways, Hilton, Visit London, and the Great Britain push, Fans of London celebrates a grand debut backed by data from London & Partners, the Mayor of London’s promotional company, and Spredfast.

Based on the report’s findings, the city is the most talked about travel destination on Twitter, with the words London and travel having been tweeted together more than 630,000 times in 2015—200,000 times more than the next most popular locales namely Paris, New York, Rome, and Tokyo.

The word London alone was tweeted more than 81 million times across the same period, while some of the words most commonly tweeted in association with London were art, travel, and fashion. The location’s top visitor attractions also generated huge amounts of traffic online.

The Coca-Cola London Eye was the most tweeted attraction in the capital last year. Separate research indicates that London has been Googled more than any other capital city since 2004 and is the most ‘selfied’ city on Instagram. Additionally, social media has had an increasing influence over holiday choices.

Meanwhile, the Fans of London promotional exercise will also celebrate blockbuster events and anniversaries from 2016. Highlights include Queen Elizabeth’s ninetieth birthday, Shakespeare 400, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and the world’s first Rolling Stones exhibition.

The effort rolls out with a series of films. The first follows the journey of Christine Meer, an American fan of the British royal family. She was awarded privileged access into London’s historic royal palaces as well as a stately makeover to match the theme of her visit.
