Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWGoA), through a strategic partnership with Google Cloud, has announced the deployment of generative AI within the new myVW mobile app.

myVW apps with AI-powered Virtual Assistant

Volkswagen is leveraging Google Cloud’s industry-leading AI, machine learning capabilities, and expertise from Google Cloud Consulting to power Volkswagen’s myVW Virtual Assistant. It also to provide vehicle owners with intuitive access to critical vehicle information and services.

The new generative AI-powered Virtual Assistant within the myVW app is available for all My24 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicle owners. Drivers can access information and answers specific to their vehicles.

The myVW Virtual Assistant combines Volkswagen’s connected car data with Gemini models on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform to deliver low-latency, accurate information to users.

Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport owners can use the new Virtual Assistant through the myVW app to explore their owners’ manuals and ask questions such as, “How do I change a flat tyre?” or “What does this digital cockpit indicator light mean?” In addition, myVW app users can use Gemini’s multi-modal capabilities to see helpful information and context on indicator lights simply by pointing their smartphone cameras at their dashboards.

With the combination of Google Cloud’s Vertex AI and BigQuery, Volkswagen is able to ground and tune Gemini models on multiple data sources, including vehicle owner’s manuals, frequently asked questions from customers, help centre articles, official Volkswagen YouTube videos, and step-by-step guides.

Furthermore, Volkswagen leveraged Google Cloud Consulting’s expertise throughout the app development process, from design to deployment. This comprehensive support ensures that the app meets Volkswagen’s specific legal requirements and high standards and delivers an innovative and user-centric experience.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasised the significance of this development, stating that Volkswagen is setting a new benchmark for driver experiences by leveraging advanced generative AI. The multi-modal capabilities of Google’s Gemini models enable the virtual assistant to provide highly personalised support to Volkswagen owners.

Rachael Zaluzec, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience & Brand Marketing at Volkswagen Group of America, highlighted the myVW mobile app’s role in enhancing customer service. The app offers Volkswagen owners convenient and valuable support by consolidating various information points into a single platform.

Starting in 2025, most MY20 and newer Volkswagen vehicle owners can use the new Volkswagen Virtual Assistant in the myWV app. The app is available in both the Apple Store and the Google Play Store.
