SimpliSafe’s tech-enabled holiday sweater is a prototype with integrated motion sensors that sound the alarm when friends and family (or strangers) get within six feet of it
SimpliSafe, maker of home security systems, launched a festive re-engineering of a holiday staple today: the SimpliSafe Social Distancing Sweater. The security company and MullenLowe US created the campaign with one question in mind: what if SimpliSafe could protect your holidays like it protects your home?
Designed with this year’s challenges in mind, the tech-enabled holiday sweater is a prototype with integrated motion sensors that sound the alarm when friends and family (or strangers) get within six feet of it.
Since launching on 16 December, SimpliSafe invites people to visit sweater.simplisafe.com to see the Social Distancing Sweater in action. They are offering a limited run of the sweaters, in exchange for a donation to the NeighborWorks America Rental Resilience Fund, which helps keep individuals and families economically impacted by COVID-19 housed through the pandemic.
Those with an eye for DIY will also find detailed tech-install instructions to techify any festive apparel.
Unfortunately, the sweaters being given away are simply just ugly—the alarm function exists only in a prototype that MullenLowe US created for the campaign, but the tech-savvy can find all the details on how to add their own alarms on the campaign site.
The SimpliSafe and MullenLowe’s Social Distancing Sweater spreads holiday cheer while kindly letting others know they’ve come too close, and reminds us all that this season will be happier 6 feet apart.
