The Olympian has been named Crest and Orgullosa ambassador by Procter & Gamble, while her mother joins the Thank You Mom line-up.

Revealing its latest athlete and mom partnership during the Rio Olympics, Procter & Gamble has named American gymnastics gold and silver medallist, Laurie Hernandez (pictured), the ambassador for Crest and Orgullosa. Meanwhile, her mother, Wanda Hernandez, joins the Thank You Mom line-up.

Her involvement with the campaign aims to highlight the pivotal role a mother plays. The pair will make its first official appearance on 19 August at the P&G Family Home in Rio. The appointment will be celebrated among participating athletes and their families.

The 16-year-old star athlete of Puerto Rican descent is the first American-born Hispanic female to join the U.S. women’s gymnastics team since 1984. Hernandez represents a new wave of Latinas who shine with orgullo (pride) and confidence and are reshaping the face of America.

The mother-and-daughter duo will be featured alongside Crest in an upcoming campaign on the Orgullosa online platform created to celebrate and empower the accomplishments and dreams of Latinas. The initiative will spotlight personal anecdotes of said family and the pride in their culture.

“Laurie Hernandez has inspired people around the world through her talent, personality, and amazing smile. We welcome her to the family and are proud to support her as a role model for the strength of Latinas and their families,” said Marc Pritchard, Chief Brand Officer at Procter & Gamble.
