Mercedes-Benz introduces Google Assistant on Google Home to enable seamless interaction between the home and the car.
Mercedes-Benz has moved to welcome the integration of Google Assistant on Google Home, a voice-activated personal assistant that makes it possible for one to interact with his or her vehicle from home. The feature will be available to customers in 2017.
The collaboration is part of the automotive giant’s goal to create an intelligent ecosystem around cars and leverage modern technology to heighten personal convenience. In line with the integration, Google Home users can send destination to their Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Users will also be able to set and activate heating and cooling systems within their vehicles; find out fuel and charge levels; check lock status; as well as interact with their cars in order to lock doors, alongside other advantages. Said benefits are accessible from the comfort of their home.
The brand is one of the first original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to combine the Google Assistant on Google Home with its vehicles. The move signals another step forward in its connectivity strategy and intelligent interaction between a customer’s wearable devices and their cars.
Arriving over the first months of 2017, customers will be able to communicate with their cars through Google Home across specific markets. The premium car company launched the Companion app in 2015 to incorporate contextual intelligence into its customers’ driving experience.
In addition to door-to-door navigation, the app uses machine learning to provide a personalised user experience by learning from customers’ actions as well as their environment. Meanwhile, it extends customers’ existing behaviour on their mobile phone seamlessly into vehicles.
“This newest integration shows just how intelligent the car of the future will be, and we plan to roll out more applications as the year progresses that will make daily life even more accessible and convenient,” said Sajjad Khan, Vice President of Digital Vehicle & Mobility at Daimler.
Mercedes-Benz was a global winner of the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 World Branding Awards in the Automotive category.
