KLM has unveiled a virtual baggage check service on Messenger that allows its iPhone-using passengers to check their hand luggage size.
KLM has introduced a baggage check service via Messenger, which leverages augmented reality technology, and the purpose of which is to enable travellers to confirm if their hand luggage is the right size. Since being launched, the offering has been made widely available to the brand’s iPhone-using (6s and up) passengers.
The AR-activated tool uses a transparent virtual KLM suitcase that is placed over an actual suitcase to indicate whether its dimensions are suitable for overhead compartments. The platform allows users to perform the inspection from the comfort of their own homes. The feature is already on the Dutch airline’s app (iOS).
Earlier in the year, Messenger announced it would make AR technology available in closed beta via its platform. KLM is one of the few companies worldwide to build an experience using AR in Messenger. The company plans to continue its focus on the area and improve on the service to take advantage of the latest technologies.
“By offering the augmented reality hand baggage check in Messenger, we are once again taking a next step in terms of digital service provision. With this service, our passengers can see at a glance whether or not their hand baggage is the correct size,” said Pieter Groeneveld, Senior Vice President Digital for Air France-KLM.
KLM is a three-time national winner of the World Branding Awards in the Airline category, having claimed the titled in 2015, 2016, and 2017 respectively.
