Heinz is working in partnership with the click and collect app developers, Stampapp, to create an individual app

Heinz, a food processing company and multi-time winner of the World Branding Awards, has launched the new Click&Chips campaign committed to helping the nation’s fish & chip shops reopen and trade successfully.

Around 80 per cent of the UK’s chippies were forced to close during the Covid-19 crisis. Now, with the hospitality sector getting set to reopen, these small business owners need to find fast solutions to social distancing and reduced footfall.

Heinz is working in partnership with the click and collect app developers, Stampapp, to create an individual app – and cover a two-month subscription fee – for 100 fish and chip shops nationwide, all at no cost to the shops themselves. The apps will employ a click and collect service to reduce queues in-store as well as provide the shops with an additional revenue stream.

“Fish and chip shops have historically played an important role during national crises. In WW1 The War Cabinet recognised the importance of the dish and guaranteed supplies at low prices, and in WW2 fish and chips were not rationed,” said Claire Traynor, Head of Foodservice for Northern Europe at Kraft Heinz.

“Now, this very British institution is in crisis. We want to pay back the favour of decades gone by and are committed to helping them get back to serving up moments of joy for consumers across the country.

“Rather than running a voucher scheme that asks consumers to pay in advance, we wanted to empower the shops with the tools and expert guidance to pivot their business and start trading successfully again. We’re incredibly excited to have this campaign up and running and cannot wait to see these small but mighty traders reopen for business.”

Founder of Stampapp, Tom Messett, adds: “We’ve already begun rolling out click and collect apps to a number of fish and chips shops around the country and they have shown great success in allowing these businesses to continue trading in these unprecedented times.

“Time is of the essence for businesses right now and these apps can be up and running within 5 working days. The apps also offer unique features like time-slot-based ordering to help owners ensure safe collections and maintain social distancing.

“Many independent businesses, especially those outsides of larger cities, don’t have access to (or the budgets for) large delivery apps. What’s more, they don’t have the time or man-power to run their own ordering system. Click&Chips provides them with a free and simple solution! We will work with chip shop owners every step of the way to ensure smooth running for both the operator and consumer. At the end of the two-month free subscription period, traders can choose to continue the monthly subscription, at a special discounted rate, or cancel with no fee or obligation.“

Click&Chips will also supply each business with a box of Heinz sample sauces and marketing toolkits including posters, social media assets and Covid-19 reopening checklists to help them open safely and promote their new app to customers.

Fish and chip shops have until midnight on Sunday 12 July 2020 to sign up for the pledge of support being offered by Heinz by visiting click&chips website. The spots will be awarded on a first come first served basis so don’t delay. The successful shops will be notified by Friday 17 July 2020 and supported every step of the way to bringing back the nation’s favourite comfort food.
