The New Year often inspires renewed fitness goals. As technology continues to advance rapidly, the fitness industry consistently introduces innovative exercise trends. This year, pickleball and paddle sports are gaining significant popularity, offering a unique blend of badminton and tennis. Excitingly, these trending sports are now accessible on the Apple Fitness+ platform.
Apple has made a significant move into the world of pickleball by incorporating a wide range of new pickleball-focused workouts into its popular Fitness+ streaming service.
The online fitness platform is expanding its offerings to include a new series: ‘Strength, Endurance, and Agility for Pickleball.’ This exciting addition joins the platform’s existing library of classes, which includes popular options like yoga and indoor cycling. The new pickleball-focused series is expertly led by Catherine Parenteau, a former world number-one ranked player.
Apple stated that the new classes were developed in response to user feedback and recognition of pickleball’s rapid global growth, making it a popular sport for casual and competitive players.
The popularity of pickleball has surged, especially in the US. Players frequently cite its ease of play and its ability to provide a more intense workout compared to sports such as tennis or squash.
In addition to the pickleball classes, Apple will introduce a progressive strength program, specialized yoga classes focusing on specific poses, and an introductory breath meditation series. The update also features new collaborations with renowned artists and celebrities, including artist spotlight episodes dedicated to Janet Jackson, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, and Kendrick Lamar.
Users will now experience enhanced connectivity between Fitness+ and Strava. Completing a Fitness+ workout will automatically sync rich details, including class names, to their Strava accounts. Furthermore, the collaboration will feature some top Strava athletes in Fitness+ programming.
Apple announced that the new content will be available starting Monday, January 6th. It will be included in the standard Fitness+ subscription, which costs £9.99 per month in the UK and the equivalent in US dollars.
Apple introduced Fitness+ in late 2020 as its newest online service, initially with a strong emphasis on Apple Watch integration. While an Apple Watch still enhances the experience with additional features, Fitness+ has evolved to be accessible across most Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs, even without an Apple Watch.
Essentially, Apple launched Fitness+ as a fitness and wellness service deeply intertwined with the Apple Watch. However, it has since expanded its reach to become more inclusive, catering to a wider range of users and devices within the Apple ecosystem.
