The former CEO of Ogilvy Malaysia returns to LA for a Dual Role at TBWA/Chiat/Day

TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles welcomed John Deschner in the newly-created hybrid role as Chief Innovation Officer and Managing Director.

Deschner will be charged with furthering the company’s digital and content capabilities, and serving a key leader across departments while directly overseeing key digital functions, including creative technology, integrated production and social media management and strategy. Deschner will report directly to President Erin Riley.

“When we set out to find someone to lead agency innovation, we knew we were looking for a unicorn; someone with both highly specialised and broad-based skill sets, who could not only lead and grow our digital practice but also serve the company at large as a leader and change agent,” said Riley. “We are incredibly excited to have found that unicorn in John. His experience is as impressive as it is comprehensive and diverse, and he will be a welcome addition to our growing team.”

Joining TBWA from his CEO position of Ogilvy Malaysia since August 2015, Deschner had served over four years at Deutsch LA rising to the role of Executive Director prior to Ogilvy. He was responsible for the health, growth and success of all major digital initiatives for clients such as HTC, Volkswagen, Target and Nintendo.

Deschner also served as head of client services and business development for AKQA in Washington where he oversaw relationships with key clients including United States Postal Service and Delta Air Lines.

Deschner began his career as a graphic designer/animator, and later, an interface designer and technical project manager in Washington before his foray into advertising.
