British Airways has named Ozwald Boateng to its line-up of designers, a charge that will see him design uniforms for 32,000 employees.

British Airways has added Ozwald Boateng to a bespoke cast of British designers behind the creation of its uniforms from the past and present. The latest to join said line-up, the appointment of the Savile Row tailoring expert will see him reimagine the carrier’s current wardrobe which was realised by Julien MacDonald.

Boateng has been charged with assembling a collection for the 32,000 employees who don the daily ensemble as part of their representation of British Airways. A historical event for the brand, the upcoming capsule will be a celebratory extension of the airline’s centenary festivities earmarked for the next calendar year.

From shadowing them to understand their roles and how the uniforms must perform to design, testing, and final delivery, he will work closely with British Airways employees throughout the development process. Equally notable is the debut of the designer’s first womenswear collection from earlier in the year.

The illustrious career of Boateng, which traces back to 1986, saw him installed as the first ever tailor to host a catwalk show at the Paris Fashion Week. As well as being the youngest in his profession to open a store in Savile Row, he served as Creative Director for Givenchy Homme between the years of 2002 and 2006.

“Our uniforms have been an iconic symbol of our brand throughout our 100-year history and our partnership with Ozwald will take us forward to the next chapter in our journey,” said Alex Cruz, BA Chairman and Chief Executive.

“At a time when we’re investing for customers, new uniforms are a visual representation of investment in our people, and we want them to feel proud when they wear the uniform.”

Meanwhile, other prominent names embedded in the ever-evolving fashion footprint of the aviation giant include Paul Costelloe, Roland Klein, Baccart Weatherall, and Hardy Amies.

British Airways is a four-time national winner of the World Branding Awards in the Airline category, having claimed the title from 2014 right through to 2017.
