Rihanna has been announced as the new face of Dior’s iconic J’Adore fragrance.
Rihanna’s diverse talents are undeniable. Ever since launching Fenty Beauty in 2017, this cultural icon has become the world’s wealthiest musician. A pro at brand deals, the fashion trendsetter has landed a new role as the face of Dior’s iconic J’Adore fragrance.
The luxury brand announced the news on June 18th, with Women’s Wear Daily providing the exclusive statement.
“Being the new face of J’Adore is both an honor and a mission,” Rihanna expressed in the statement. “This scent, which I have known and loved for so long, holds great significance for women. I am especially looking forward to joining this adventure and contributing to it through my world, my story, my roots, as well as my creativity and my own femininity.”
Rihanna makes history as the new face of Dior’s J’Adore fragrance, taking the reins after actress Charlize Theron’s remarkable 20-year run. According to WWD, Theron will now represent Dior’s jewellery and fashion lines.
This power move by the French fashion house cements Rihanna’s status as both the first Black woman and the second person ever to embody the iconic J’Adore.
“The unusual talent, audacity, and captivating beauty of this absolute star are the ideal embodiment of the dazzling, powerful Dior femininity that transcends generations,” expressed Véronique Courtois, CEO of Parfums Christian Dior, in the statement. “Her golden dream promises to be unique, reflecting a fragrance that is ever-present for women and retains its radiance.”
In a recent Instagram post, Dior expressed their excitement about having Rihanna, a multi-talented icon with stunning beauty and worldwide popularity, represent the J’adore fragrance. The image features Rihanna in a modern take on the famous Bar jacket, originally designed by Christian Dior in 1947, as reported by Vogue.
The caption further explains that J’adore has been a constant companion for women globally. It represents the essence of a powerful, liberated woman, a story that resonates deeply with Rihanna. She has made J’adore her own, wearing it as a symbol of her audacious spirit and captivating charm.
Rihanna has been a trailblazer for the global fashion house on multiple occasions, and this parfum collaboration is not her first time serving as the brand’s face. In 2015, she became the first Black ambassador for Dior with the Secret Garden campaign.
Renowned photographer Stephen Klein, known for his captivating visuals, shot this campaign and will also oversee the visuals for the J’Adore campaign.
Several commenters under the brand’s Instagram post, likely members of Rihanna’s fan base known as the Navy, accurately speculated about her appointment to the role. This speculation arose from a suggestive post by Dior, which hinted at the news by telling followers to “stay tuned” as a “new queen” had entered their circle. The post was made just moments before the official announcement.
This new Dior ambassadorship adds another impressive chapter to Rihanna’s already remarkable career. Her groundbreaking makeup line, Fenty Beauty, boasts over 50 shades with innovative formulas and has become a massive success, surpassing $600 million in annual sales. Fenty Beauty’s launch was followed by the introduction of Fenty Skin, further solidifying her presence in the beauty industry.
In 2018, Rihanna launched her lingerie line, Savage X Fenty, which experts estimated would reach a staggering worth of $3 billion by 2022. Following this expansion of the “Fenty” empire, Rihanna recently announced Fenty Hair earlier this month. This brand focuses on hair repair solutions, allowing Rihanna to showcase her expertise as a hair care maven.
Landing the coveted role of J’Adore’s new face marks another pinnacle moment in Rihanna’s illustrious career. The iconic creative further solidifies her undeniable influence in the fashion and beauty world. With this historic appointment, Rihanna remains a trailblazer, consistently setting new standards for impactful brand ambassadorship.
