This groundbreaking event, “Louvre Couture: Art and Fashion: Statement Pieces,” explores the profound and enduring dialogue between the museum’s iconic collection and the world of high fashion.

Running from January 24 to July 21, the exhibition showcases masterpieces from the Byzantine era to the Second Empire alongside haute couture gowns and accessories from renowned fashion houses such as Chanel and Alexander McQueen. It reveals how fashion designers have drawn inspiration from the Louvre’s treasures, resulting in garments that are not merely clothing but wearable works of art.

The Louvre and Fashion: A Tale of Elegance in the Heart of Paris

The intersection of art and fashion makes Paris a significant venue for this exhibition. At the opening of the couture exhibition, Olivier Gabet, Director of the Decorative Arts Department at the Louvre Museum, highlighted this connection to Reuters, stating, “Paris is the capital of fashion. There is a very strong relationship between the fashion houses and Paris, and the Louvre is at the heart of it all.”

The exhibition features over 65 iconic garments and 30 fashion accessories from 45 prestigious fashion houses, including Dior, Balenciaga, and Schiaparelli. The exhibition explores how fashion designers draw inspiration from historical art and decorative styles.
