Flaunting its tech savvy, 7-Eleven has embraced mobile payments by introducing WeChat Pay and Alipay at participating stores in Canada.

Convenience retailer, 7-Eleven, has announced that participating stores in Canada will now accept Alipay and WeChat Pay payments. Reflective of the chain’s collaboration with cross-border mobile payment company, Citcoin, the move begins with activation at 35 locations in Vancouver and Toronto.

According to the group, the entry of Alipay and WeChat Pay sets a new standard for Canadian retailers. With mobile shaping the future of convenience, implementation of the above strategy allows the marque to stay ahead of the curve by focusing its services around mobile pay apps and other solutions.

Meanwhile, plans for expansion over the next few months are in place. The decision supports the brand’s aim to push for solutions which elevate the customer experience in an increasingly digital world. Through the initiative, 7-Eleven seeks to provide shoppers a simpler way to complete transactions.

The global footprint of the company spans 67,000 stores worldwide. The convenience retail giant is the first to offer Alipay and WeChat Pay mobile payment solutions in the country. Said development reinforces its motivation to drive digital transformation with the latest in consumer-facing mobile technology.

“We are no stranger to firsts. We have always sought out innovative ways to afford consumers with convenience how they like it and when they like it. Alipay and WeChat Pay are another way we are enhancing the customer experience,” said Doug Rosencrans, Vice President and GM of 7-Eleven Canada.
