Florida-based Karisma Hotels & Resorts has recently introduced and launched the world’s first Autism Concierge. Developed in partnership with Autism Double-Checked, the initiative aims to provide safe, enjoyable, and autism-friendly travel opportunities.
The Autism Concierge serves as a dedicated aid for travellers with autism in their party, be it a child or adult. With this, guests can feel comfortable to enquire about specific needs and support during their holiday.
According to Daniel Lozano, the Vice President of Operations at Karisma Hotels & Resorts, the new resource will help guests feel more at home in their resorts. Furthermore, it will ensure guests that their concerns are taken seriously by adapting to their needs and surpassing expectations.
As part of the Autism Concierge, staff will complete specific Autism Double-Checked courses to assist guests with autism. By doing so, employees receive proper training on handling situations that guests with autism may encounter.
Training under Autism Double-Checked consists of three stages. The first is a general walkthrough for all staff, followed by specific departmental training. Finally, a site-specific visitor guide, such as the Autism Concierge, is developed to assist visitors and caregivers with autism.
“It takes specialised training to understand and address the specific needs of travellers with autism, and we’re proud to help bring understanding and compassion to our travel industry partners,” shared Alan Day, the Co-Founder and CEO of Autism Double-Checked.
Certified Autism Double-Checked hotels include the Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts in Riviera Maya and Punta Cana, plus the Margaritaville Beach Resort in Riviera Cancún and Cap Cana. Several other hotels and resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic have also achieved the certification.
