PayPal is official payment partner for three Suns brands and first jersey patch partner of Arizona’s original professional sports franchise.
PayPal has inked a global partnership with the Phoenix Suns. As first jersey patch partner starting in the 2018-2019 regular season, which kicks off on 17 October 2018, the logo of the digital payments giant will appear on the front left of the basketball team’s jerseys—opposite Nike’s insignia.
Jersey sponsorships were approved by the NBA as part of a three-year pilot programme. The tie-up also positions the marque as the official payment partner of the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, and Real Club Deportivo Mallorca owned by Robert Sarver.
The brand will receive traditional marketing and sales assets via channels aligned with all three to include in-arena and stadium promotions alongside broadcast and digital exposure. Slated for a spring reveal, Phoenix Mercury jerseys will feature PayPal starting in the 2019 WNBA season.
The deal will see the latter’s services embedded across several touchpoints to include the sales terminals at the Talking Stick Resort Arena and Suns Team Shop. Fans can expect to enjoy access to options through the Suns mobile app. PayPal Here card readers and PayPal Credit are set to be enabled for chip, swipe, and tap payments.
“The Phoenix Suns have proven time and again that they share our passion for putting the customer – their fans – first. We are excited to offer new commerce experiences that enable a more convenient in-arena experience,” said Dan Schulman, President and CEO of PayPal.
