Mark Wahlberg celebrated the grand opening of his clothing brand Municipal‘s first permanent store last week.

The store is situated at 8609 Melrose Avenue, in the heart of West Hollywood’s Design District. This spacious 1,100-square-foot venue, located near Huntley Drive, represents a significant milestone for the four-year-old brand, transitioning from a temporary pop-up to establishing a committed physical retail presence.

Municipal is an athletic apparel brand aiming to take the performance-wear market by storm. With its range of performance apparel, the brand caters to active people and prioritises comfort and functionality, allowing for a full range of movement during workouts or other activities.  The new store reflects this focus with its sleek design featuring white walls, black fixtures, and hints at future offerings for golfers.

Harry Arnett, co-founder and CEO of Municipal, also joined Wahlberg at the ceremony. Arnett’s experience in apparel was instrumental in the development of the brand, which is known for its activewear. Additionally, he brings his expertise in golf equipment to the table, influencing the brand’s focus on quality and functionality.

The Los Angeles store marks a pivotal step for the brand, transitioning from a temporary pop-up in New York City to its first permanent retail space. “This allows customers to truly experience the brand,” explains Harry Arnett, Municipal’s Co-Founder and CEO, told WWD. “It’s about seeing, touching, and feeling the quality and living the Municipal lifestyle.”

Wahlberg himself expressed a long-held desire to create his own brand, having previously collaborated with sportswear giants like Nike and Adidas. “I always wanted to do my own thing,” he said, “and when I connected with Harry, it all came together.”

This is just the beginning for Wahlberg and Arnett. They have ambitious plans, with a concept store slated to open in Carlsbad, California, this August. This will be followed by further expansion across the US, with stores planned for Las Vegas, Phoenix, Atlanta, and Boston, and a return to New York City in the coming years.
