The Love Cocoa Story

The company was founded by James Cadbury in 2016, a descendant of John Cadbury, the man who established the iconic Cadbury chocolate company. Inspired by his family’s legacy, James Cadbury sought to create a chocolate brand that not only tasted delicious but also adhered to ethical and sustainable practices.

Following Mondelez’s controversial 2010 takeover of Cadbury, the company lost its status as a British brand, affecting hundreds of jobs. John envisioned a company that would honour the tradition of his great-great-great grandfather while embracing modern values.

Eventually, in 2016, James started selling chocolate from a stall on Old Street, with a small range of chocolate bars. After more than 6 years, Love Cocoa products are now available in 17 different countries and countless retailers, including John Lewis, Oliver Bonas, Anthropologie, Liberty’s and Fenwick.

Innovative Flavors and High-Quality Ingredients

Love Cocoa was founded on a commitment to using the finest quality, single-origin cocoa beans sourced from small, family-run farms in Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador. The brand is known for its luxurious, creamy chocolate bars made without the use of palm oil.

Love Cocoa doesn’t shy away from experimentation. The brand offers a wide range of flavours, from classic dark chocolate to unique combinations like boozy truffles and salted caramel. This creativity and willingness to try new things have helped Love Cocoa stand out in a crowded market.

In addition to innovative flavours, the brand uses high-quality ingredients. It sources its cocoa beans from premium regions, ensuring that the chocolate has a rich and complex taste. This attention to detail is evident in every bite.

Ethical Sourcing and Sustainability

One of Love Cocoa’s key differentiators is its commitment to ethical sourcing. The brand ensures that its cocoa beans are sourced from suppliers who prioritise fair labour practices and environmental sustainability. This means that consumers can enjoy their chocolate knowing that it has been produced responsibly.

Additionally, the brand has planted 1.6 million trees in North and East Africa over the past four years as part of its efforts to combat deforestation and climate change. The mainstream chocolate industry is shrinking the rainforests, damaging the environment and contributing to global warming on an alarming scale.

With its mission to make chocolate consumption more sustainable, the brand is committed to protecting nature by avoiding plastic and palm oil and combatting the deforestation and environmental damage caused by unsustainable cocoa farming by planting trees. Furthermore, the brand is currently pledging 1% of its annual sales to the planet, paving the way for change in the chocolate industry.

A Luxurious Experience

Love Cocoa’s packaging and presentation contribute to the overall luxury experience. The brand’s products are often beautifully designed and packaged, making them perfect for gifting or indulging in a special treat. This attention to detail creates a sense of occasion and elevates the chocolate-eating experience.

Moreover, the brand is dedicated to reducing its environmental footprint. The brand uses sustainable packaging and supports initiatives to combat deforestation. This commitment to sustainability resonates with consumers who are increasingly conscious of the impact their choices have on the planet.

First Ever Brick and Mortar in Central London

The brand opened its first store in 2024, located on South Monton Street, as part of a programme run by Westminster City Council. Speaking to Confectionery News, James Cadbury was ecstatic about its first physical store. He mentioned that the store allows customers to experience the brand’s unique and sensory chocolate products, which simply can’t be achieved by shopping online.
