Set to feature 366 guestrooms and posh amenities, Athens Marriott Hotel debuts in 2018, after its $15 million renovation sees completion.

Marriott International has signed a deal with Chandris Hotels, marking the return of the brand to Athens after more than a two-year hiatus. Featuring 366 guestrooms and bespoke amenities, Athens Marriott Hotel debuts in 2018, after its $15 million renovation sees completion.

The signing of the property, which currently runs as the Metropolitan Athens Hotel (pictured) on Syngrou Avenue, underscores the Marriott group’s desire to work with the owners to expand the marque’s 30 brands across key European capitals. Chandris Hotels owns and operates five hotels in Greece.

The renovation plans for the cosmopolitan location includes modern conveniences and features. The place will boast fitness facilities, two restaurants, a swimming pool, rooftop bar, and contemporary meeting space which can be customised via the hospitality giant’s specialised services.

The aforementioned milestone takes place on the back of the company’s acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, a transaction which created the world’s largest hotel company. The expanded global network today operates and franchises more than 5,700 properties in over 110 countries.

The chain operates 13 hotels and resorts in Greece, eight of which are Europe-based Luxury Collection locations. Meanwhile, Marriott has also opened two Autograph Collection hotels on the island of Crete over the past 12 months, namely Domes of Elounda and Domes Noruz Chania.

“We are excited to work with Chandris Hotels, which has a strong history and shares our vision for innovating. We are also proud to have been selected as their first collaboration with an international brand,” said Carlton Ervin, Chief Development Officer, Europe at Marriott International.
