The W Hotels entry will elevate the hospitality landscape with modern architecture, signature amenities, and a full calendar of happenings.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts is set to debut the W Hotels brand in Scotland with W Edinburgh. Opening in 2021, the property is to join TH Real Estate’s Edinburgh St James scheme slated to see completion in 2020. The 12-story building will feature a unique façade crafted from a winding steel ‘ribbon’.

Designed by Jestico + Whiles in conjunction with Allan Murray Architects, the location will form the centrepiece of the 1.7 million square foot development and incorporate a blend of retail, entertainment, leisure, and residential apartments, reinforcing the city’s reputation as a booming cosmopolitan capital.

The W Hotels entry promises to elevate the hospitality landscape with modern architecture, signature amenities, and a full calendar of happenings that capture the latest in design, fashion and music. Guests can expect to be treated to the marque’s iconic ‘Whatever/Whenever’ service philosophy.

The swanky spot will offer 214 guestrooms, including 20 suites and one Extreme Wow Suite (or Presidential Suite). The rooftop will feature a destination bar and outdoor terrace, affording 360-degree panoramic views of the historic skyline, along with an innovative approach to cocktails and cuisine.

Joining the mix are facilities such as the W Lounge in the hotel lobby; a signature restaurant; FIT, a high-end workout facility; and an AWAY Spa providing an eclectic menu of health and lifestyle experiences. An ideal venue for events, W Edinburgh will provide 2,450 square feet of event space.

The development will see the shopping centre currently on site replaced with 850,000 square feet of retail space, a multi-screen cinema, up to 250 new homes, and said hotel. The project will support the city’s tourist industry, which contributes an estimated £260 million to its economy each year.

The addition of W Edinburgh to Starwood’s W Hotels UK portfolio complements the iconic W London – Leicester Square, which opened in 2011 and continues to impress jetsetters from around the world. Loyalists can expect to revel in being able to experience two unique UK cities within a few hours of travel.

“W Edinburgh’s location combined with its innovative design, contemporary interiors and the W brand’s signature programming, will create the perfect setting for the second W hotel in the United Kingdom,” said Michael Wale, President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa and Middle East.
