The Apple Watch celebrates its 10th anniversary with innovative materials and improved display technology.
Apple has unveiled a redesigned Watch that offers the thinnest dimensions and the biggest display ever seen in the series. The Apple Watch Series 10 display is even larger than the Apple Watch Ultra, the previously largest-screened model introduced two years ago.
Apple announced that it had enhanced the display for wider viewing angles. The company’s chief operating officer explained that they “optimised it to capture more light from multiple angles,” increasing brightness by up to 40% when viewed from the side.
Apple highlighted that the expanded display size allows users to make text larger for more effortless reading or display additional details.
Thanks to its enhanced energy efficiency, the display can update its content every second when in always-on mode, significantly improving over the previous minute-long intervals.
The new hardware design, characterised by curved edges and a much slimmer build, accommodates the larger display without compromising size.
The aluminium model now offers a new jet black option and rose gold. Apple is replacing the premium aluminium version of the Watch with titanium, a change they claim reduces its weight by 20%. Not only that, the company also highlighted the Watch’s impressive charging speed, stating it can reach 80% battery life within 30 minutes.
Apple unveiled the new Watch at its “It’s Glowtime” event, introducing the iPhone 16. Although the company didn’t announce a new Apple Watch Ultra, it released the current black model.
Enhanced Health and Fitness Capabilities
The Series 10 includes a new sleep apnea feature that utilises the Watch’s accelerometer to track sleep patterns and notify users of potential sleep disturbances. Apple initially announced this feature for the Series 10 but has confirmed it will also roll out to the Series 9 and Ultra 2 later this month.
The Series 10 offers more advanced aquatic activity features than the Series 9. It includes a water temperature sensor and a depth gauge capable of tracking up to 20 feet (6 meters) underwater. Apart from that, the Series 10’s compatibility with the Oceanic+ snorkelling app, which is now available for download from the App Store, this extra feature adds an exciting dimension to your aquatic adventures.
Audio Upgrades and Enhancements
Although audio is not the first thing that comes to mind when considering Apple Watches, the Series 10 enhances its audio capabilities by enabling users to play music through the built-in speaker.
The Series 9 includes a speaker but is primarily used for practical functions like phone calls, Walkie-Talkie, and Voice Feedback during workouts. The Series 10 allows you to directly play media such as music, podcasts, and audiobooks from the built-in speaker. This feature works with Apple apps like Apple Music, Podcasts, Books, and third-party apps.
The Series 10 enhances its microphone capabilities by incorporating voice isolation, which uses a neural network to minimise call background noise.
Price is a significant factor when purchasing new technology. The Apple Watch Series 10 costs $399 for the 42-millimeter aluminum model with GPS. The titanium model with GPS and cellular connectivity costs $699, and the larger 46-millimeter titanium model with GPS and cellular costs $749.
Apple has once again raised the bar for smartwatches with the Series 10. Its combination of a larger display, enhanced battery life, and a more comfortable design makes it a compelling choice for those seeking a premium wearable.
