Ring allows users to see and speak with visitors, and hits the UK market following success in reducing crime in U.S. neighbourhoods.

Outdoor home security provider, Ring, has launched its Ring Video Doorbell line into the UK, online, and at selected Currys PC World stores. Backed by Richard Branson, the product allows users to see and speak with visitors at the door. It hits the new market following proven success in reducing crime in U.S. neighbourhoods.

The offering is a smart home solution that has reinvented how one responds to people out front. When motion is detected or someone rings, the device streams live audio and HD-quality video from the doorbell directly to the smartphone, tablet or computer via a free app on iOS, Android, and Windows.

Additionally, the home safety platform allows consumers to see and have a live two-way conversation with whoever is near or at the front entrance, whether or not the person is a visitor or poses a security threat. Founded in 2012 by chief inventor and CEO, Jamie Siminoff, Ring has since secured nearly $100 million in funding.

The brand has helped reduce crime in America, most recently by setting up a six-month programme in conjunction with the LAPD to lessen the number of daytime burglaries. The campaign saw the company donate Ring Video Doorbells to 10 percent of the Wilshire Park community, a district of Los Angeles.

As a result, daytime burglaries in the district were reduced by 55 percent and no break-ins were reported where a Ring Video Doorbell was installed. “We are excited to have the support of Crimestoppers as we enter the market and try to make neighbourhoods safer,” said Siminoff.
