McDonald’s has opened it’s first take-away only branch in Fleet Street, London.

Targeting city workers the McDondald’s will offer the grab-and-go service with a slightly reduced menu, alongside some new items such a prepared salads. Customers will be able to order their food via touchscreens to speed up the service.

The branches will be smaller than the usual sites, with no seating. This is the first time McDonald’s have introduced a new format since the drive-thru was introduced in the 1980s.

Senior vice president of development and IT for McDonald’s UK and Ireland, Henry Trickey, commented, “It’s an exciting, but challenging time to be in the restaurant sector. Changing tastes, new technology and more competition mean we need to continue to focus on investing in what matters most to our customers.

“We know that ‘one size doesn’t fit all’ and that’s exactly why we are launching McDonald’s to Go – to allow  us to trial different formats in different locations, depending on customer needs.”
