Essence has replaced Alastair Boyle, who leaves for London, with new hire, Dave Marsey, to oversee the agency’s Google account globally.

Essence has appointed Dave Marsey (pictured) to oversee Google, for which it is global digital media agency of record. He joins the firm after a decade at DigitasLBi, where he was last Chief Growth Officer. He will lead a team of over 300 people across 10 offices in North America, APAC, and EMEA.

He will drive account strategy globally as well as manage relationships with the company’s most senior clients, while a member of its Executive Committee. Essence has worked with Google for over ten years. In 2016 alone, the firm headed more than 570 campaigns in 45 markets worldwide.

At his last company, Marsey led the team that opened the agency’s San Francisco office and doubled it in two years. He also oversaw the launch of Taco Bell’s mobile app. He previously also held account directing positions at firms such as ID Media and Avenue A, which is now SapientRazorfish.

Meanwhile, he serves as President of the Board of Directors for First Graduate, a programme designed to help San Francisco students become the first in their family to graduate from college. Additionally, he formerly taught as an adjunct marketing professor at the University of Chicago for 12 years.

Beginning his post on 17, Marsey will be based in San Francisco and report to Global CEO, Christian Juhl. He takes over from Alastair Boyle who previously held the charge and was behind many iconic campaigns. Boyle leaves the San Francisco office to lead the business’ global practice from London.

“Dave’s impressive leadership experience makes him well poised to drive media decisions for the client. Google and Essence have evolved alongside each other over the years. We are excited for Dave to continue advancing Google’s ambition to be the world’s greatest digital marketer,” said Juhl.
