Disney runs photography push to support its #DreamBigPrincess initiative, which celebrates the stories of girls and women worldwide.

Disney has unveiled a photographic campaign in support of #DreamBigPrincess, which celebrates inspiring stories from around the world. Nineteen female photographers from fifteen countries have created a series of empowering images that showcase real-world girls and women.

Launched in 2016, the wider initiative taps into the power of the brand’s stories to inspire children. Photographs will be shared on social media to help raise funds for Girl Up, the United Nations Foundation’s programme which backs the leadership and empowerment of adolescent girls.

“The idea that stories can inspire kids to follow their dreams is key. We asked some of the most accomplished female photographers to tell the stories of inspiring women and girls; the results are incredible,” said Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, Consumer Products and Interactive Media at Disney.

From one of the first female National Geographic photographers to the International Picture of the Year, World Press Photo Award for Nature, and Commonwealth Photographer of the Year winners to a Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News finalist, the illustrious roster boasts a wealth of talent.

With subjects that include the youngest UN speaker; founder of Bamiyan’s first female cycling team in Afghanistan; a Chinese Paralympian gold medallist; teenage author of a STEM coding book for kids; and a young Brazilian surf champion, the project captures a vast range of stories.

Between now and 11 October, Disney will donate $1 with any public post of a photo that uses the #DreamBigPrincess hashtag. Every ‘like’ garnered for such posts across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter will generated the same. The donation allotment is between $500,000 and $1 million.
