British Airways has shared its plans to expand the airline’s Heathrow to Inverness route with increased daily and weekend flights from 2019.

British Airways will soon expand its flights between Heathrow and Inverness, and operate two daily return services from Monday to Friday and three return services at weekends from summer 2019. The move represents a significant development for the major carrier.

For the first time since the route was reinstated in 2016, an aircraft will be parked overnight at Inverness Airport. Therefore, British Airways passengers will be able to travel between the two cities, complete a full working day, and return home on the same day.

From 31 March, the number of weekly flights that will be offered between the two cities in the summer will rise from ten to sixteen. The winter flying programme between Terminal 5 and Inverness will see a doubling from seven to 14 return services offered a week.

The airline will run a double-daily schedule every day of the week from 27 October 2019. Flights have also been re-timed to improve onward connections to its global network of over 150 destinations worldwide. Travellers can book online with each-way fares starting from £115 in Club Europe and £34 in Euro Traveller.

“We are able to increase flights to Inverness because the airport is exempt from Air Passenger Duty. This outdated and unjustified tax stifles the airline’s route development plans and costs the UK jobs and growth,” said Phyllis Stuart, British Airways Airport Manager in Inverness.

“The new schedule will bring greater economic benefits to the region and the extra flights on Saturdays and Sundays will cater for the number of leisure passengers travelling to the highlands and islands during the summer months.”

British Airways is a five-time national winner of the World Branding Awards under the Airline category, having claimed the title from 2014 right through to 2018.
