Consumers Can Now Earn and Use United Airlines MileagePlus Award Miles at BP Retail Stations

Beginning on 7 March, 2018, BP and United Airlines will offer BP Driver Rewards and United MileagePlus members the option of earning and using miles on petrol purchases at participating BP US retail locations. This is the only programme in the US that allows customers the ability to earn and use US airline miles at the pump for petrol purchases.

When BP Driver Rewards and MileagePlus members sign up for this new programme, they can earn 200 bonus award miles after joining and making their first petrol purchase with a linked debit or credit card.

It is announced that members can multiply their earnings through the following options: one award mile for every gallon of petrol purchased, two award miles for every gallon of petrol purchased with a linked debit or credit card, or three award miles for every gallon of premium-grade petrol purchased with a linked debit or credit card.

In addition, BP Driver Rewards and MileagePlus members will be able to use 60 award miles per gallon to save US $0.50/£0.36 per gallon with a linked debit or credit card.

“We are pleased to work with United Airlines to launch this exciting partnership. We know that consumers want more choices when it comes to how they are rewarded by BP, and this programme makes it even easier for our customers to save money on petrol purchases.

“This partnership also builds on BP’s strategy to develop high-quality, differentiated petrol and convenience offers to provide consumers with choices that help simplify their busy lifestyles,” said Rick Altizer, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at BP.

“This unique programme demonstrates our commitment to providing MileagePlus members with an industry-leading experience. We want our members to have a variety of ways to earn and use miles, and they will be able to conveniently do so for petrol purchases with BP,” said Luc Bondar, President of MileagePlus Holdings and Vice President of Loyalty at United Airlines.

United Airlines was the official airline of the United States Olympic Committee for the recent 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
