The new feature by Apple debuts in partnership with Donate Life America, with iPhone users now able to sign up as donors via mobile.

Apple and Donate Life America have partnered for the first time, a move allowing iPhone users to sign up as an organ, eye, and tissue donor via the Health app with the release of iOS 10. Through a simple process, subscribers can take action with just a few taps and also learn more.

All submissions using the aforementioned mode are sent directly to the National Donate Life Registry, which is managed by Donate Life America. The ability to speedily and easily become a nationally-registered donor enables people to carry their decision with them wherever they go.

With more than 120,000 Americans currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant, and a new individual being added to the national transplant waiting list every 10 minutes, each organ donor can save as many as eight lives and heal many more through the gifts of tissue and eye donation.

In the absence of donor registration, families are left to make the decision about donation in what is often the worst moment of their lives—the sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one. The initiative by Apple forever changes said dynamic since donors now get to decide for themselves.

The Health app on iPhone provides a complete view of one’s health and fitness data all in one place. The platform includes Medical ID, which makes critical health information available to first responders and is accessible from the iPhone lock screen in case of an emergency.

The feature can display information under categories which span medical conditions, allergies, medications, blood type, and emergency contacts. Furthermore, with iOS 10, Medical ID offers users the ability to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor with Donate Life America.

“Apple’s mission has always been to create products that transform lives. With the updated Health app, we’re providing education and awareness about organ donation and making it easier to register. It’s a simple process which could help save up to eight lives,” said Jeff Williams, Chief Operating Officer at Apple.

Apple is a winner of the 2015-2016 World Branding Awards under the Mobile Phones (Global) category. The brand also dominated in said segment the year (2014-2015) before.
