Apple has rolled out a new initiative to support engineering talent and accelerate growth in India’s iOS developer community. Expected to open in early 2017, the company will establish a Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, home of the nation’s start-up scene.

The city and hub is home to more technology start-ups than any other part of India. More than one million people in the city work in the tech sector, while over 40 percent of graduates from local universities specialise in engineering or information technology.

As a leading mobile operating system and foundation for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, tens of thousands of developers make apps for iOS in said market. The platform offers additional specialised support for them. The team is working to instruct developers on best practices and help them hone their skills.

Also transforming the design, quality, and performance of their apps on the iOS platform, Apple experts will lead briefings and provide one-on-one app reviews for developers weekly. The facility will provide guidance on Swift, the intuitive programming language created to build apps for the iOS, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watch.

The aforementioned channel enables developers to write safer, more reliable code, save time as well as create richer app experiences. A recent report by developer placement firm, Toptal, shows jobs requesting Swift rose by 600 percent in the year 2015.

“India is home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world. With the opening of this new facility in Bengaluru, we’re giving developers access to tools which will help them create innovative apps for customers around the world,” said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple.

Apple is a winner of the 2015-2016 World Branding Awards under the Mobile Phones (Global) category. The brand also dominated in said segment the year (2014-2015) before.
