Ab InBev launches Eclipse to advance climate action, circular packaging, water stewardship and smart agriculture – at pace and at scale
AB InBev is determined to build a company to last but knows they can only do that with a healthy natural environment and thriving communities. As the world’s leading brewer, AB InBev remains firmly committed to creating a better world aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Through their 2025 Sustainability Goals, this is AB InBev most ambitious set of public commitments yet and aims to create a measurable positive impact, drive growth and improve livelihoods across their entire value chain—from the company’s growers and retailers to its consumers and their communities.
Since 2017, Ab InBev has improved its water efficiency by nearly 10% and energy efficiency by 6%. The company has also contracted 60% of its global electricity volume from renewable sources. More than 40% of the company’s volume is in returnable packaging and is committed to improving the recycled content of Ab InBev primary packaging.
The company have also reduced its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in its operations by more than 13%. And is working with tens of thousands of farmers around the world to ensure they’re skilled, connected and financially empowered.
As Ab InBev looks to transition to a low-carbon economy, improve watershed health and biodiversity, and create more equitable supply chains, the company has a real opportunity to collaborate with its suppliers to design for resilience and co-invest in innovation.
Which is why AB InBev has launched Eclipse, the company’s new supplier collaboration platform designed to advance climate action, circular packaging, water stewardship and smart agriculture – at pace and at scale.
Eclipse brings the company’s vast network of suppliers and partners together to collaborate and make progress on its shared sustainability goals. First-of-its-kind in the beverage industry, the platform offers educational webinars and workshops with sector experts and provides opportunities to share best practices. Recent supplier collaborations have led to the introduction of alternative fuel delivery trucks, and eco-friendly coolers in every zone where AB InBev operates worldwide.
Earlier this year, in support of Anheuser-Busch’s Better World strategy, Bud Light – the official beer of the NFL – presented football fans with the first-ever aluminium cup at Super Bowl LIV. Working in partnership with container manufacturer Ball Corporation, Ab InBev developed 50,000 infinitely recyclable aluminium cups to reduce single-use plastic and waste during this year’s big game.
Other suppliers that have already joined Eclipse include Ardagh, OI, Rio Tinto, International Paper, Iberdrola, ValFilm, BYD, Nikola, San Carlos, CanPack, Novozymes, ADM and more.
