The highly sought-after MoonSwatch has finally made its debut, featuring a moon-phase feature. Its pristine all-white appearance perfectly resonates with NASA enthusiasts.
The much-anticipated Snoopy MoonSwatch has arrived, albeit sooner than predicted by Swatch’s print adverts displaying the cartoon pooch’s paw print on the lunar surface.
Swatch is calling this latest collaboration with Omega “Mission to Moonphase.” The new model, entirely white in color, commemorates the full moon and will be available for sale on March 26. However, the launch materials do not specify the price. Like other MoonSwatches, this Snoopy model will not be limited in availability, so those who miss out next week should eventually have the opportunity to acquire it.
Similar to the current MoonSwatch models, this Snoopy watch has a chronograph function. Additionally, it boasts a moon-phase feature, displaying various lunar phases on the subdial positioned at 2 o’clock, adorned with the Peanuts character reclining on the celestial satellite. This is the first time Swatch has integrated a moon phase with a chronograph.
In line with the company’s recent inclination for concealed messages on watches, Omega has incorporated a quote from Snoopy’s comic strip into the moons and stars, visible under UV light.
Adding another comic touch, the battery cover of the 42-mm piece features a cartoon moon with a Snoopy paw print imprinted on the dusty surface. Additionally, it comes with a “spacesuit-ready” Velcro strap, which is also in all-white, completing the whimsical aesthetic.
The longstanding connection between Snoopy and Omega is well-established, and this latest iteration of the prevalent Swatch collaboration will probably become the most sought-after model. This is particularly true as it represents a genuine new iteration, distinct from the previous Moonshine Gold MoonSwatches versions. Unlike some recent releases that have been deemed somewhat gimmicky, such as one timepiece coinciding with National Swiss Day, no such criticisms apply to the Mission to Moonphase.
This also implies that individuals anticipating a cost-effective Swatch Snoopy Speedmaster must be ready to queue up once more at specific Swatch stores since, like the other models, it won’t be purchasable online.
The Omega and Snoopy space affiliation originates from NASA’s prestigious Silver Snoopy award, a silver lapel pin introduced in 1968 to recognize remarkable accomplishments pertaining to flight safety or mission accomplishments. In 1970, Omega received the Silver Snoopy Award following the pivotal role played by the Speedmaster during the Apollo 13 mission. As a backup to the malfunctioning instruments, the Speedmaster enabled Jack Swigert to time the crucial 14-second rocket engine burn, facilitating a safe return to Earth.
It wasn’t until 2003 that Omega introduced the inaugural piece in a series of Snoopy Speedmasters designed to commemorate the brand’s rich heritage in space exploration.
The MoonSwatch Mission to Moonphase will be available starting March 26 at selected Swatch stores. Similar to the entire MoonSwatch Collection, only one watch can be bought per person, per day, and per Swatch store.
