Vans will be donating a portion of the proceeds from this collection to an organisation that champions mental health

Vans, manufacturer of skateboarding shoes and related apparel, has teamed up with Austin, Texas-based No Comply Skateshop for a second collection honouring late artist and musician Daniel Johnston. Following up an inaugural capsule that released in 2019, this second collection consists of new iterations on the Old Skool, Authentic and Slip-On, all covered in Johnston’s signature art.

A white and grey palette with orange accents is used on all three silhouettes. The Old Skools and Eras offer Johnston’s artwork in a light grey that blends into the white base it’s placed upon, whilst the Slip-On notches up the contrast by printing clearly visible black embellishments on its white canvas upper.

Each Vans x No Comply pair uses PopCush insoles for comfort and is brought together by bright orange outsoles with white stars and numbers that mark Johnston’s birth and death years — ‘61 and ‘19. Accompanying the shoes are two tees, a hat and a tote bag.

The impetus for Vans x Hockey’s collection was a catalogue from the early 2000s, and a past silhouette, the Authentic High, that caught Andrew’s eye. The result is the Authentic High Pro, featuring an UltraCush footbed for superior support and board feel, and Duracap technology to reinforce underlays in critical high-wear areas prolonging the life of the shoe.

A portion of the proceeds from this collection will go directly to the Hi, How Are You Project, an organisation that champions mental health.

The Vans x No-Comply x Daniel Johnston collection is now available in select Vans pro skate accounts.
