Hilton has renewed its alliance with Clean the World with the addition of two more partner hotels to its global effort featuring recycled soap.

Hilton has partnered with soap and bath amenities recycling group, Clean the World, in tandem with National Handwashing Awareness Week. With the hotel brand’s aim to send zero soap to the landfill, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton by Hilton will back the non-profit with recycled hygiene products.

As part of the global alliance which kicks off next year, some 2900 properties under both portfolios in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic will lend their efforts to converting discarded supplies into fresh bars of soap and hygiene kits for the underprivileged spread out across the globe.

On top of making product available to those in need, the exercise endeavours to prevent the spread of diseases within communities and reduce mortality rates worldwide. The tie-up with the charity has already helped distribute over 7.1 million bars of recycled soap to deprived communities in 127 countries.

With its renewed commitment with Clean the World, Hilton will more than double the number of hotels involved with the outreach programme. An extension of the hospitality giant’s Travel with Purpose corporate social responsibility platform, the project seeks to fulfil its underlying purpose by the year 2030.

The programme cuts the company’s environmental footprint in half. The kits include bath soap, shampoo, a toothbrush, and towel—supporting its WASH (water, sanitisation, and hygiene) education and emergency relief efforts to eliminate certain preventable ailments.

The mission of Clean the World is protecting the environment and saving millions of lives by leading a global hygiene revolution. The organisation has served many families in need, contributing to a 35 percent reduction in the death rate of kids under the age of five dying due to hygiene-related diseases.

“We are proud of the work that has been done thus far. We look forward to deepening our commitment to providing at-risk communities with access to soap—while simultaneously reducing waste across the globe,” said Bill Duncan, Global Head for Hilton’s All Suites and Focused Service brands.

Hilton is a global winner of the 2014-2015 World Branding Awards in the Hotels category.
