Coles Supermarkets, the leading Australian retailer, has made its grand debut in Malaysia with Jaya Grocer. The exclusive collaboration between the two supermarket retailers will see exclusive Coles products stocking the shelves, offering Malaysian consumers a variety of Australian Coles goods.
Over 200 Coles products will be available for shoppers, boosting Jaya Grocer’s roster of Australian-based brands to over 1,000 products. The partnership is part of the Malaysian retailer’s Australia Fair, supported by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade).
Will Mulholland, General Manager for Exports at Coles, and Daniel Teng, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Jaya Grocer, sealed the deal at the Jaya Grocer Starling Mall store. Clare Gatehouse, Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia, was also present.
In regards to the collaboration, Mulholland said, “We think Malaysia is a great country and with Jaya Grocer and GrabMart supporting our brand, we hope growth will continue into the future,” The brand has future plans to diversify its offerings even further with Australian dairy products and ice-cream.
All 43 Jaya Grocer stores in the country will offer Coles products, including the option of online deliveries using the GrabMart mobile application. In physical retail shops, Coles products can be located mainly along the grocery aisle, offering varieties like chocolate finger biscuits, drinking chocolate, hot chocolate sachets, rice crackers, and more.
Coles has seen positive growth in the last few months, partnering with Central Food Retail for its foray into Thailand. Accumulatively, the brand’s Malaysian and Thai partnerships will not only drive sales amongst local consumers but provide a familiar face to Australian expats residing in the country.
