Coca-Cola have announced that it will change the packaging of their Sprite bottles from green to clear.

Even though the green bottles are recyclable, the clear bottles will be easier to recycle through mechanical methods, which are the most common.

The iconic looking bottle has been green for almost 60 years. The change will be made to their glass bottles too as well as their cans, although green will still be very much a part of the Sprite identity.

The change will be pushed out later this autumn in the UK and by next year the clear plastic bottles will be made from at least 50% recycled plastic.

General Manager of Coca-Cola Great Britain, Jon Woods said, “Using more recycled plastic is a critical element of our sustainable packaging strategy, as it reduces the amount of virgin material used in our packs. None of this is easy and I am proud of the teams’ work to ensure we are on track to move to at least 50% recycled PET plastic on all of our bottles in 2020.”
