Sainsbury’s will be launching their Christmas ad this evening featuring Nicholas the Sweep in a Dickensian style setting, celebrating it’s 150 year history.

The advert features a boy named Nicholas, an orphan who is wrongly accused of stealing an orange from a Sainsbury’s store. An act of kindness to him, in turn becomes what he will later become – Father Christmas himself.

The ad ends with the tagline ‘Sainsbury’s. Making Christmas since 1869.’

Laura Boothby, head of broadcast marketing at Sainsbury’s commented: “This is the only year we can talk about being 150 years old and tell of the Christmas traditions we have today that came from Victorian England.

“We wanted to tell a heartwarming story full of joy. There is an expectation on us every Christmas and we don’t want to disappoint.”
