Apple introduces update to Messages, Home app, Photos, Music and News, and opens Siri, Maps, Phone, and Messages to developers.
At its Worldwide Developers Conference held on 13 June 2013, Apple previewed iOS 10, the biggest release of the most advanced mobile operating system, featuring a huge update to Messages which delivers more expressive and animated ways to message friends and family, like stickers and full-screen effects.
The platform allows Siri to do more by working with apps, particularly the redesigned Maps, Photos, Apple Music, News, and Home apps. Delivering a simple and secure way to manage home automation products in one place, iOS 10 opens up incredible opportunities to developers with Siri, Maps, Phone, and Messages.
The iOs 10 has made Messages more expressive with animations that can take over an entire screen to celebrate a special occasion, use invisible ink to send a message only revealed after a friend swipes over it, and for added personalisation, create handwritten notes.
Developers can now build on Siri intelligence and let users interact directly with apps using their voice. SiriKit helps design apps to work for messaging, phone calls, photo search, ride booking, personal payments, and workouts or use Siri to control CarPlay apps, access climate controls or adjust radio settings within automakers’ apps.
Open to developers, apps like OpenTable integrates bookings so services like Uber and Lyft can simplify securing rides without leaving Maps. It has seen upgraded to proactively deliver directions to where a user most likely wants to go next based on routine or one’s calendar appointments.
Photos helps one rediscover occasions from his photo library by automatically surfacing them in Memories—which scans photos and videos as well as locates key events, trips, and people and presents them in a collection. There is also Memory Movie, an automatically edited movie with theme music, titles, and cinematic transitions.
The app delivers a secure way to install and control the home in one place. Accessories can be managed individually or grouped into scenes so they work with a single command while controlled using Siri. Managed remotely or set up for home automation with Apple TV, it responds with automatic triggers set by time, location or action.
Apple Music’s fresh design brings added clarity to the experience, using language and a new structure for ease of navigation and discovery. The Library, For You, Browse, and Radio tabs have been overhauled to provide a greater sense of place, while a Search tab has surfaced to make finding music easier.
“iOS 10 is our biggest release ever, with delightful new ways to express yourself in Messages, a native app for Home automation, and redesigned apps for Music, Maps, and News that are more intuitive, making everything you love about your iPhone and iPad better,” said Craig Federighi, SVP of Software Engineering at Apple.
Apple is a winner of the 2015-2016 World Branding Awards under the Mobile Phones (Global) category. The brand also dominated in said segment the year (2014-2015) before.
