With the final release scheduled for 2017, the limited-edition beverage is amongst the most rare to have been created by the brand
Alcohol giant, Glenfiddich, has released in Vancouver, British Columbia this week, one bottle of the most exclusive single malt Scotch whisky to have ever been crafted at its distillery. Called the Glenfiddich 50 Year Old, only 450 bottles have been produced—the equivalent of 50 bottles per year over a period of nine.
With the final release slated for 2017, the limited-edition beverage is amongst the most rare to have been created by the brand. Priced at CDN$36,000 (approximately £18,000), the said bottle will be available for buyers at the B.C. Liquor store beginning 7 November 2015.
“As each year passes, a portion of the whisky evaporates leaving only a small and precious amount of spirit in the original cask. Pale gold in colour, with a complex aroma and an exceptionally long finish, this bottle will pique the interest of whisky aficionados across the country,” said Brian Kinsman, Malt Master of Glenfiddich.
According to the company, the Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is one of the rarest expressions of authentic single malt whisky and is created using time-honoured techniques while produced from the nine casks laid down in the 1930s honouring each of William Grant’s children.
Hand-blown, each unit is individually numbered in wax before a solid silver bottle-neck is applied and stamped with the William Grant & Sons hallmark by sixth-generation silversmith, Thomas Fattorini. The bottle is set in a hand-stitched leather-bound case which also contains a leather-bound notebook detailing the drink’s rich history.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Charles Gordon, Life President and William Grant’s great-grandson, owners can register their bottle by having the document personally signed by William Grant’s great-great-grandson, Peter Gordon. It will then be recorded in the Glenfiddich ledger.
“It is a truly exceptional bottle which represents the pioneering spirit, adventurous outlook, and vision of William Grant, and we look forward to seeing this year’s designation of Glenfiddich 50 Year Old find a loving home,” said Elizabeth Havers, Brand Ambassador of Glenfiddich in Canada.
