iOS 18.1 will be a free download, offering features like notification summaries and text rewriting capabilities. However, these new features will be exclusive to the latest iPhone models.

After months of anticipation, Apple has officially unveiled the highly-anticipated feature for its latest iPhone models. Earlier this year, Apple unveiled Apple Intelligence, a collection of advanced AI capabilities. The company announced that the initial feature would be available to users in 2023.

The iPhone 16 was launched with a focus on AI integration. Despite the initial announcement, the promised AI features were not included in the initial release.

Apple has fulfilled its promise by releasing the initial AI feature in the iOS 18.1 update. Users can download this free update through the Settings app or opt for an automatic overnight installation.

Unfortunately, Apple Intelligence is currently limited to a select group of users. On iPhone, it’s only compatible with the latest iPhone 16 models and the previous year’s iPhone 15 Pro. Additionally, AI tools are currently restricted to devices set in the US region.

While the iOS 18.1 update includes some exciting new features like notification summaries, advanced writing tools, and a refreshed Siri interface, it’s important to note that this is just the beginning. Many of the more significant AI-powered features announced alongside the iPhone 16 are yet to be released.

In the coming months, Apple is set to unveil a range of innovative generative AI features. One such feature is a “genmoji” app allowing users to create personalized emoji. Additionally, Apple has committed to a significant overhaul of Siri, enabling the virtual assistant to leverage more personal context in future interactions.

Apple’s AI advancements are extending beyond the iPhone. iPadOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1 are now available for download, introducing Apple Intelligence features to iPads and Macs respectively.

The range of devices compatible with Apple Intelligence is broader for iPads and Macs. These AI features will be supported on any iPad or Mac powered by an M1 chip or later, as well as the newly released iPad Mini, specifically designed to leverage these advanced capabilities.
