Marks & Spencer is set to unveil a new line this week, designed in partnership with Bella Freud, renowned for her playful, androgynous fashion and iconic slogan sweaters.

Bella Freud’s iconic designs are making their debut at affordable prices, catering to people from all backgrounds. The collection features her signature slogan sweaters and a variety of other pieces, including a pinstripe suit, pleated mini skirt, scarves, a blouse, tote bags, and bootcut jeans. With 27 pieces, this is the first time her style has been so widely available.

The M&S line includes sweaters with Bella Freud’s signature phrases, such as “Honey,” “Nature,” “Blue Sky,” and “Divine Feminine.” These sweaters cost £129, a significant reduction over her core label. The suit is also an incredible bargain, costing less than £220 compared to £1,000+. While these pieces are cheap, the M&S items are a more accessible choice for people who adore Bella Freud’s aesthetic.

One key difference between the M&S collection and the mainline is the sizing. The M&S pieces are available in sizes 6 to 24, while the mainline only goes up to size 16. These expanded sizing options make the M&S collection more appealing to a broader range of customers, including fashion influencers like Jane Birkin, Kate Moss, and Alexa Chung.

Starting Thursday, the new Bella Freud x M&S collection will be available online and in 31 UK M&S stores. Richard Price, MD of Clothing & Home, states, “This collaboration introduces Bella Freud’s signature style to a wider audience. The exclusive collection combines Bella’s coveted designs with M&S’s trusted quality and value.”

In several interviews, Freud emphasised the high quality and meticulous craftsmanship of the M&S pieces.

She expressed her long-standing admiration for M&S on Instagram, describing the collaboration as “a dream in terms of shared vision.” She also shared a personal story about her disappointment when her progressive school abolished uniforms. She recalled admiring the window displays of V-necks and pleated skirts at her local Marks & Spencer, saying, “It felt like a marvelous emporium of desirable things. The ordered elegance and pristine quality of the garments were so appealing. I longed for those well-made, simple pieces to serve as a protective shield and armour to contain my inner turbulence.”

The Bella Freud x M&S collaboration is a testament to the power of a successful partnership. By bringing together Bella Freud’s iconic designs with M&S’s quality and affordability, the collection offers something for everyone.
