The Seal charges 10-80% in just 25 minutes, a 12-minute improvement.

The BYD Seal has positioned itself as a strong contender against the esteemed Tesla Model 3, and the Chinese conglomerate has introduced significant updates for the 2025 model year.

Additionally, the most significant change lies beneath the surface, replacing the 400-volt electrical architecture with a new 800-volt system. BYD has not disclosed the exact increase in the Seal’s peak charging rate, but they revealed that the charging time from 10-80% is now just 25 minutes, down from 37 minutes in the previous model.

Two battery options will be available, a 61.44 kWh pack and an 80.64 kWh pack, offering CLTC ranges of 510 km (317 miles) and 650 km (404 miles), respectively. Similar to the outgoing model, the entry-level 2025 Seal will feature a single 228 hp electric motor driving the rear wheels, while more powerful RWD variants will provide 308 hp. For those seeking top performance, a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration with 523 hp will still be an option.

BYD has elevated the Seal’s driving dynamics by equipping it with the newest generation of its Disus-C adaptive dampers, promising improved stability, comfort, and handling.

The new Seal prioritises safety with the addition of a roof-mounted LiDAR. This cutting-edge technology empowers the vehicle with advanced semi-autonomous functions such as high-speed and urban Autopilot and Automated Valet Parking.

BYD has revamped the Seal’s interior with a new design language. A flat-bottom steering wheel replaces the previous design, and the centre console has been simplified. The dashboard now boasts a sleek, full-width gloss black panel.

Bypassing the name Seal 07 EV, the 2025 BYD Seal kicks off at CNY 175,800 (€22,500, $24,500) with a single-motor setup and a 61.44 kWh battery. The lineup then progresses to three 80.64 kWh battery options: CNY 189,800 (€24,200, $26,500), CNY 216,800 (€27,700, $30,200), and the top-tier dual-motor at CNY 239,800 (€30,600, $33,400).
